I have written on Web-activated Internet Telephony with Jajah in this post. Now it seems that Jajah is seeking a larger subscriber base by offering free calls to landlines and mobile phones in the United States, Canada, China, Taiwan and Singapore as well as many european countries (landlines only). This is said by the Financial Times.

In this post I already wrote of the benefits of ‘Snap’, a dialer for Asterisk that integrates with Windows XP. Now a new release (0.7) is available. It comes with some major new features like a TAPI driver, integration with Mozilla Thunderbird and support for Skype!

In this article I announced that the new Gizmo softphone is supporting Asterisk as a client. However, it seems that your Asterisk PBX box has to be reachable from the Internet using a fully qualyfied domain name. Connections are not set up from the softphone to the PBX but rerouted through the sipphone network. This brings in some extra hurdles to set it up. Fortunately, there is some help at the support pages.

Somehow related to the article on Web-activated Telephony, the ever popular free calls company Voipbuster has similair functionality built in the latest release of the voipbuster client.
In the tab labelled ’start’ there is a new field called ‘Direct Callback Nr’. Filling this with your own number, and then dial a different number using the dialpad, will set up the connection for you. Normal voipbuster rates apply.
