Enjoy Music on your Phone with Asterisk

I now you always wanted to do this: Call your PBX at home and play your huge MP3 collection by phone! Haha, just joking there, the sound quality is probably terrible!

Anyway, it is possible with Asterisk Jukebox. This little application for Asterisk allows the caller to browse the music collection using a nifty IVR menu to select the song or have it played randomly.

Since the author is asking for testers, go download it and give it a try!

Video podcast on Asterisk.

Wan’t to learn more about Asterisk but don’t wan’t to read through all the tutorials? Then watching the podcasts from Asterikast might be a good idea! Episode 3 is here and covers AGI (Asterisk Gateway Interface) and installing a free g729 codec. The podcast plays for over an hour but feel free to skip the first two minutes since it is a very long and irrelevant intro.

Easy Asterisk “In-A-Box”

EasyAsterisk is an attempt to create a ‘All-in-a-box’ experience with Asterisk, providing a user-friendly GUI to Asterisk. Although the interface is not as slick as e.g. Trixbox’s interface, this may be promising. Too bad the website is in Italian, but the demo is in English.

A big plus is that the installation comes with default support for ISDN trunks (BRI and PRI) which may come handy for European users.

How to setup Asterisk with Gizmoproject

In this article I announced that the new Gizmo softphone is supporting Asterisk as a client. However, it seems that your Asterisk PBX box has to be reachable from the Internet using a fully qualyfied domain name. Connections are not set up from the softphone to the PBX but rerouted through the sipphone network. This brings in some extra hurdles to set it up. Fortunately, there is some help at the support pages.
