Contact List Disabled for Older Skype Versions.
If you are using a skype version older than 2.0.0.90, your contact list may have been disabled. It seems that older clients layed huge performance strain on the central servers. So the skype people had to disable this feature. The latest release has a fix for this bug so upgrading might be a good idea.

Skype update released, fixing DEP crash.
There has been released a new version of Skype for Windows (2.0.0.73, released the 20th of January). You can download it here.
This fixes a bug that caused Skype to crash when DEP (Data Execution Prevention) is enabled in Windows XP. -

Skype vs Gizmo
I was going to do a comparisson on Skype and Gizmo but Tom’s Networking has done an excellent job already. The conclusion: Skype has the advantage of the huge installed base, gizmo has the features and the open standards which lead to interconnectivity.
