Skype for Mac 2.0 went gold.

Skype 2.0 for OSX is out of beta. So go grab your copy and be able to do videochats with any other skype user on mac or windows. Still no video for linux yet :(

Skype 2.6 Beta is even more bloated

Skype 2.6 beta is available for download and I must say that I’ve got a bad feeling about where it is all going. The most important changes: easier access to SkypeCasts, URL’s are now clickable in mood messages (who needs them anyway?) and birthday notifications for your contacts.

Skype is getting more bloated with every update probably eating up more system resources that it already does. What is so difficult with building a pretty good voip client (which it was) and than stick with it?

Free SkypeOut minutes for Mac users.

To celebrate the release of the new Skype 2.0 with Video beta for Mac, Skype is giving away a whopping 10 minutes of free SkypeOut minutes! Imagine how much you can tell your friends for free in ten minutes! Thank you Skype! Anyway, a good way to test the SkypeOut service if you haven’t done that yet.

Asterisk Video Tutorials

Recently a new site offering Asterisk Tutorials was launched. It has downloadable video tutorials available for Asterisk, TrixBox and FreePBX. However, these tutorials are not free. It’s a commercial site selling these tutorials. I don’t mind paying for a good tutorial but I really think some of these prices are way too expensive! I’m not going to pay almost seventy dollar on a “Getting Started With TrixBox” tutorial. No matter what the quality of the material is!

While these videos might be of use to some of us, I’ll stick with some excellent written tutorials.

Great Service Provides Audioblogging by Phone.

Today I discovered this great service gabcast. Gabcast is a podcasting/audioblogging service. As a audio publisher you can create channels that listeners can subscribe to via the website or via RSS. It also lets you publish podcasts to popular blogging services or your own hosted weblogs.

While podcasting isn’t new, this service is kind a special. Big difference is that you can post your audio by phone. Second big difference is that is provides several access numbers in several countries like the USA, Canada, UK, Holland. You can also call them via FreeWorldDialup or Gizmo/SIP.

I tried the service calling with my mobile phone to the access number in Holland. The sound quality is very good! The documentation is also very good and provides information setting up for several services including instructions for e.g. Asterisk and FreePBX.
